Oregon businesses to receive government assistance in cutting red
tape.
Oregon businesses attempting to navigate the maze of government
contracts all alone will be receiving assistance soon through the
Government Contract Acquisition Program (GCAP), which helps counsel and
train businesses interested in marketing their products or services to
government agencies. A new federal cooperative funding agreement will
provide GCAP with the ability to reach out to a larger number of small
businesses.
"Since 1991, GCAP has assisted Oregon's small businesses in obtaining more
than $46 million in government contracts", Eugene manager Jan Hurt said.
"However there are still many companies that need our assistance, or don't
even know we are here to help them." In addition to the new grant from the
federal Defense Logistics Agency, GCAP receives lottery dollars from the
Oregon Economic Development Department. Currently GCAP is the only
recipient of the funds in Oregon and the only nonprofit program providing
comprehensive procurement assistance to Oregon businesses.
The Government Contract Acquisition Program prepares businesses for entry
or expansion into the multi-billion dollar government market by providing
marketing assistance, counseling, and training in government procurement
processes and procedures. The professional staff of GCAP provides
technical assistance in all phases of contracting, including bid
preparation, proposal review, compliance, regulations, and payment issues.
In addition, GCAP offers a bid matching service that provides a business
with bid leads from all federal agencies, including electronic data
interchange leads, international leads, and state bid leads from all over
the U.S.
GCAP has offices in Portland, Eugene, Coos Bay and Central Oregon. GCAP is
member of the national Procurement Technical Assistance Network and is
administered by the Organization for Economic Initiatives. |
