Since I claim to be a quilter, I thought I had better prove my work, lol. Here are a few of the quilts I have made over the past 7 years. Now keep in mind that I have not taken any fancy quilting classes, all this has been trial and error (lots of error).

Carol's Denim Quilt CAROL'S DENIM LAP QUILT

This project is what originally started the denim quilts. I made this for my daughter Carol in 1992, to put in her car so she would have something to take to games and the beach. She has used it since. It is batted, and backed with an old ribbed bedspread she had on her bed for years. Our school colors are red and blue, so I tied it with red yarn. All of her friends liked it so much, I made a second one for a friend of hers for graduation.

Dern Denim Quilt DERN DENIM

I started this quilt as a Christmas Present for my daughter's fiance Jimmy, in November of 1994. Jimmy is a great basketball fan and the center fabric is all I could find that would work.

By the first of December I was going hot and heavy, had almost all of the blocks made and ready to start putting together when I came down with a bout of blood clots in my right leg. This ended any sewing for the next year. I finally got the top done in the spring of 1996. Then the big question was what to do with such a big heavy thing. I just folded it up and tried to forget it for a while.

Then one day last spring a friend on #quilttalk on Dalnet and I decide we were going to challenge each other to get at least one ufo done, Jude (Solias) had two denim jackets to finish for her daughters before they out grew them, I on the other hand was really starting to feel guilty because dd Carol and Jimmy kept bugging me about the quilt. AND THE CHALLENGES BEGAN. I bought a walking foot for my old sewing machine and put the backing on by the birthing method (I don't recommended doing this for something so heavy, lol). I got it all pulled through and tied.

It now is used all the time by the kids who tell me they love it. I can assure you I may make more denim quilts, but I won't put in as many seams in the next one, make the blocks much bigger and bind it. This quilt is double size.

Fire Engine Baby Quilt FIRE ENGINE

This one was started July of '97 and finished in November of the same year. It is machine pieced and hand quilted. I made it for my daughter's best friend's first son. I learned a lot of things from this quilt. One very important thing is to plan ahead, not as you go. I now can see many things I did that should not have been done. It is used by the baby and that was what I had in mind.

Ziean and His Quillow ZIEAN IN HIS QUILLOW

Since I spent so much time making the Fire Engine quilt, I didn't have lots of time to make a quilt for my grandson who was born in November of 1997. Poor baby only got a quillow. The Noah Arc scene is hand appliqued and hand quilted. This they use all the time.
